In 2012, Wagner became the first American woman to win two grand prix titles since Sasha Cohen accomplished the feat in 2003. She continued to rewrite history when she captured consecutive national titles in 2012 and 2013, becoming the first woman to repeat since Michelle Kwan in 2005. Wagner has seen similar success during the 2013-14 season with two grand prix medals that culimnated with a bronze medal at the Grand Prix Final. Her fifth-place finish at the 2013 World Championships helped the U.S. secure three ladies spots for the Sochi Games.
