ROAD TO SOCHI
Pikus-Pace is no stranger to adversity. After claiming the overall world cup title in 2005, she was struck by a runaway bobsled and forced to sit out for the remainder of 2005-06 season due to a compound fracture in her right leg. In 2007, she became the first American woman to win the world title, and was a medal favorite heading into the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, where she finished one-tenth of a second shy of the podium. She announced her retirement shortly after, but returned to competition in 2012. Since then, she has consistently finished on the podium on the world cup tour. The 2013 world championships runner-up won the Olympic test event in Sochi, and is once again considered a top medal contender.
