ROAD TO SOCHI
Vanlaanen emerged onto the halfpipe scene with her X Games debut in 2007. Diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2009, she took a three-year break from competing. After an inspiring recovery, Vanlaanen earned a sixth-place finish at the 2013 World Championships, and completed the year ranked ninth in the 2013 AFP halfpipe standings. With a silver medal at the 2013-14 Breckenridge U.S. Grand Prix/World Cup and a second-place finish at the Dew Tour Olympic qualifier, she garnered her first Olympic berth.
