ROAD TO SOCHI
After being sidelined for nearly one year due to reconstructive knee surgery, Alvarez was selected to the 2012-13 U.S. World Cup Team and made his world championships debut. Fast forward one year and Alvarez continues to exceed all expectations with his recovery and competitive achievements. The 2013-14 World Cup tour was highlighted by an individual bronze medal in the 500, and an historic overall title in the men’s 5,000-meter relay, marking the first for a U.S. team. He is making his Olympic debut in Sochi.

Son of Walter Alvarez and Mabel Montesino-Alvarez …Has one brother, Nick, and one sister, Nicole….Brother played seven years of minor league baseball…Started skating at age 3 and began inline speedskating at age 5…Attended the University of St. Thomas in Miami on a full baseball scholarship…Hobbies include spear fishing, boating, wakeboarding, dancing and playing the guitar…Plans to attend college and return to playing baseball after his speedskating career.
