ROAD TO SOCHI
After spending two seasons on the national short track team, Garcia transitioned to long track speedskating in 2012. Less than two years later, he secured his first Olympic berth with a fourth-place finish in the 1,000-meter at the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. His qualifiying performance came one day after he was disqualified for not wearing a transponder, which cost him a spot in the 500.
